シリアルポートの設定はどうなっていますか？

もし、minicomでデフォルトの設定を使用している場合は、
~/.minirc.dfl
を、
pu port             /dev/ttyS1
pu baudrate         115200
pu bits             8
pu parity           N
pu stopbits         1
pu minit
pu mreset
pu rtscts           No
のようにした後minicomを起動してみてください。

その状態で、hermitのプロンプトは表示されますか？
